There aren’t businesses today that can survive without having their own websites. Regardless if you are a small business, somebody who owns an online business, or you simply want to create your personal presence online, you MUST have a website. 

Building a basic website is fairly easy. It does not require extensive technical knowledge. You simply need some basic computer skills and you know how to follow instructions… Don’t freak out… I said basic website. There is a lot more involved in building a performing blog or a website, but I will talk about these in another post. In this article, I will share with you my top

10 Reasons Why You Should Have Your Own Branded Website

#1 Creates an Online Presence

Do you want your prospects or customers to find you when they go to google to search for something you are selling or providing? Do you want to control what information they can get about you or your services? Do you want to have control over your image and your message?

If you answered yes to any or all of these questions, you need your own branded website. Think about your website like your digital home address. People will use the Google as the GPS to find you. 

#2 Establishes Your Mark and Credibility

I talk about the importance of personal and business branding in another article. Having a brand, a personal brand, or establishing your mark is different than having a website. The two notions are often mixed. They are closely related to each other but there are a few differences. 

A brand = what people say, know, remember about you.

A website=your home online that contains your information. It uses visual effects (images, content, videos, etc.) to share your brand with your prospects or customers. 

I mention “credibility” in the title. Your website will establish credibility in your niche, industry, field, etc. It’s the platform for you to share your credentials, portfolio, clients’ testimonials, tutorials, etc. 

#3 Showcases Your Products, Services, or Work


What better place to showcase what you are doing than your own website? Regardless of what is your business, your website will be the perfect place to showcase your physical or digital products, the services you’re offering, or whatever else you are creating.  Having complete control over how your online portfolio looks gives you the freedom to express yourself.

It’s true, you can do all that on other platforms as well, but what better place to set yourself apart from your competition than your own website?

#4 Your Business is Always Open

It doesn’t matter what time zone or what continent you live on. Your website will be searchable and foundable (I really hope this is an actual word) to anybody on any time zone or continent (as long as they have access to the Internet…of course).

It doesn’t matter what time you start work or what time you end your work day. Your website will always be available to your current customers and new prospects. If somebody heard about you and they want to look up your information online, they expect you to have a website. Not having one=not being found.

You might argue that there is social media people can find you on. Yes, it’s true! But how much information can you really have on there and how easily are your readers able to find that information? A website is the best way to organize it. 

#5 Build Your Brand


A brand isn’t just a recognizable name and logo that distinguishes you in a crowded market or industry.

Your brand is how people perceive you wherever they interact with your business—both the impressions you can control and the ones you can’t.

Just think about famous people or celebrities…. People have brands too. We all have a name, a face, a style, a way of communicating, different impressions we make on different people, and what they say about us when we’re not in the room.

Similarly, when you think about famous brands like Nike, Adidas, Coca-Cola, etc…businesses have names, products, logos, colors, fonts, a language, and reputations to manage that make up who they are and affect how they’re perceived.

You can’t build a brand without being consistent. You also must maintain that consistency as you extend your brand to every part of your business. But it all starts with establishing what that consistency is going to look like and the feeling you want it to evoke.

Your website is the perfect place to showcase all this and building your own brand through your website essentially boils down to 7 steps:

  1. Research your target audience and your competitors.
  2. Pick your focus and personality.
  3. Choose your business name.
  4. Write your slogan.
  5. Choose the look of your brand (colors and font)
  6. Design your logo.
  7. Apply your branding across your business and evolve it as you grow.

All these have to have your customers in mind and every piece of content has to have your mark on it. 

#6 It’s the Only Content You Own

Yes!!! You read that right! You are active on social media and you post about your products, services, company, tips, tricks, advice, etc… You should be doing that. Your audience is most likely on those platforms. I will not refer here to what type of content you should post on your platforms. That is in another article. 

I’m referring to the fact that you do not own what you post on those social media platforms. Yes, you create the images, copy, videos, polls, etc… But you don’t really have control over what happens next…

You might say that your audience is seeing it…Are you sure about that? Does Facebook show you any information about your audience? Who they are (you might have an idea about that), what they do, what they like, where they hang out? Any information they have on this is vague and you don’t know for sure. You are running ads and you tell Google to show your ads to people that live in a certain location and are in a certain demographic you want or are have certain interests you choose….but Facebook doesn’t tell you much about them. You only know if they interact with your content, but even that is based on what Facebook tells you.

So what happens when Facebook starts charging a membership fee if you want to have a business page or even a profile? What happens if Facebook shuts down your account because somebody sent them a complaint? What happens if you build all or a part of your business solely on Facebook? Where will people find you if this happens? You need a backup plan! This concern is also valid for any other social media platform.

#7  You Control What Your Audience Sees

What is the first thing you do when you are searching for a product, service, or a provider of these things? You go on a search engine and input your search parameters and the search engine will give you results.

You will come across the good, the bad, and the ugly.  You will read all that information and your head will be ready to explode from the information overload. Then you don’t know who or what to believe. I always take into consideration all aspects of what I come across, and I always read between the lines. Regardless of the claims, whether good or bad, I will search for the information that backs up all those claims. If there are no real, concrete, solid facts to back up claims of any kind, I will not deem them valid. Contrary, if there is information backing up the claim without any reasonable doubt, I will consider it valid. 

People or competitors will try to destroy your product, company, or reputation the minute they perceive you a threat to their business. It’s not ethical and I believe there is room for everybody, but not everybody plays by the rules. 

Sending your audience to a website that you control what information you share and what claims you have to back it up is vital for your business. If your content is accurate, has a backup in facts, it solves your audiences’ problems and concerns, you don’t have to worry about what they come across on search engines. 

#8 Sell Your Products and Services

Your website can take the place of your catalog or brochure for your services and products. If something changes, like, you, are creating new products, services, or you change your prices for your products or services, you just change it.

You can make these changes almost instantly. You can update your customers when these changes happen. You can inform them of promotions and sales. 

Your website is your online bilboard and you can easily put it in front of millions of readers.

#9 Direct Lifeline to Your Customers

You can use your website to improve how you help your clients. You can have an online or a real-time live chat with the customers that are on your website. This way you can talk to you instantly and you can help them immediately.

This can eliminate confusion and also help answer questions from prospects, which can lead to saving you time and money.

Have an FAQ page on your website. You know your industry better than anyone. Why not have a page for the most asked questions? Those that come up frequently in conversations you have with your customers? This way you will not have to answer the same questions over and over again, especially if there is only one answer you can give.

If you sell services, maybe you can set up a ticketing system, that will help you organize help requests and keep your customer happy. Did I mention you can save a ton of time?

Your website can have a big role in your business, as it can help you to keep providing the best for your business clients.

#10 Achieve Your Vision and Goals

Whenever you start a business you need to define your vision and goals. Similar is your website. You have to have an endgame and the desired outcome. Your website will hold all your content for your business. Your content has to be geared towards reaching your goals and vision. Your content has to educate your audience and solve their issues and problems. It constantly has to connect your ideas, thoughts, vision, and goals with your audiences’ needs. different.

As your business and website matures and progresses towards your goals, as you reach your goals and you set up new ones or our create a new vision, your website will be there as a resource and a testimony of the journey you’ve been on but also the journey you’re about to take on.  Use your website as the vehicle that takes you where you want to go.
