Have noticed that Instagram is the NEW “it” platform? Don’t get me wrong. Facebook is not dead, but there’s a lot of buzz on Insta. So, if you haven’t hopped on this train, now it’s the time to do it.

However, if you are already using Instagram and you are using their built-in filters…..STOP!

That’s so 2016!

Being successful in business and especially in home-based businesses relies heavily on standing apart from the other players in your industry or niche. It’s all about attracting your audience’s attention and branding yourself. To be able to reach this goal you must stand out and level up your game……

How to Level Up Your Instagram Game with Custom Filters

Social media is a perfect avenue for reaching your audience. Since Instagram is a visual channel the key to your photos that you are uploading is to spend some time editing them.

You don’t have to be an expert in doing this.

Also, when I say edit them…I don’t say to make yourself go from size 16 to 0…

When I say edit your photos I mean, use your smartphone and a couple of apps that allow you to manipulate your photos. The things you should adjust are the:

exposure

• saturation

• warmth

opacity

Some apps like Lightroom allow you to install presets (A Lightroom Preset is a pre-determined position all (or some) of the of sliders in Lightroom (they are pre-set, get it?) In other words, you can edit a photo to your liking, and then save that exact combination of slider positions for future use on another image.) that may or may not be free.

Do a simple Google search or a Pinterest search and you will find thousands of free presets, but the best ones aren’t usually free.

Another simple way is to play around a little bit with the 3 properties of your photos and once you found the right combination of exposure, saturation, and warmth, write them down and save those settings for your future images.

Here are some easy adjustments you can use as a starting point to you upping your Instagram game:

Classic cool

This is a simple yet effective way of enhancing your images. The classic cool effect tones down the bright saturated colors and gives your images a timeless look.

Use the following settings to save this template:

  1.  Adjust saturation to -31
  2. Adjust warmth to -49

Autumn Light

This template gives your images a warm but at the same time fresh tones. It brings out the highlights and the bright colors of your images.

To create this template use the following settings:

  1. Adjust exposure to 18
  2. Adjust saturation to 3
  3. Adjust warmth to 30

Modern Fade

This is a light and a subtle fade template that gives your images a slight vintage edge. To create this template:

  1. Adjust exposure to 13
  2. Adjust contrast to 47
  3. Adjust fade to 73
  4. Adjust shadow opacity to 22

Save these settings if you wish or create your own templates. I would love to see some of your own below.
